I am a wife and mom of two teenage boys. I have a great job as an Organizational Change Manager that enables me to focus on improving and supporting the employee work experiences during large transformational change within the company. Now that my kids are able to be more responsible for themselves, I am focusing on taking better care of myself. I neglected my health and wellness for a very long time and wish I hadn't. Now, I spend as much time as possible doing things that I enjoy and are good for me! I took my hair for granted for years and years, always wanting straight hair. When I lost a bunch of it, I realized how great it was and started my journey to regrow.
Aside from my hair journey, my passions are my family, being outdoors, self care, and regrowing my hair!!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE TEXTURE OF YOUR HAIR?
Very fine, 3B/3C curls. Very low density, though it can look incredibly sparse and thin, or big and voluminous depending on how I style it. Strands are pretty healthy and mostly medium porosity. People have always remarked that I have Shirley Temple curls.
HOW DID YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR HAIR BEFORE THE INTRODUCTION OF THE INNATE LIFE PRODUCTS?
Before Innate Life, I didn't do anything to take care of my hair. I tried Vo5 hot oil treatments a time or two, but never did anything to care for my scalp or my strands. I brushed my hair a lot and kept it in very sleek and tight updo's. I straightened it often and dyed it regularly, paying no attention to the products my stylist used on me.
WHAT MADE YOU SEEK OUT THE INNATE LIFE PRODUCTS? HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE COMPANY?
In 2018 I noticed that I had lost a lot of hair. I used to have pretty dense hair down to my mid-back. At a certain point, each time I would trim it, it would get shorter and shorter and seemed to stop growing. I noticed I could really see my scalp on the sides, top, and back of my head with certain styles. My life had been very stressful for a while and I think my hormones were out of balance as well. Coupled with wearing my hair up in tight buns all of the time, I think I may have had traction alopecia and stress-related hair loss. My hair stylist was drying it straight for me one day and I realized that I looked sick because my hair was so sparse and stringy. After that, we cut it shorter (to my chin) and I started digging into hair loss and treatments.
I came across Manes by Mell videos and started trying out her tips and recommendations to care for my hair. One of them included Innate Life products. To help address my hormones and stress, I started seeing a functional medicine doctor who had me taking supplements and changing my diet. They also introduced me to information about how a lot of the ingredients in self care and household products were unhealthy. I felt like Innate Life would be the perfect line for me to try because of the natural ingredients. When I visited the site and saw the testimonials and products, I was sold.
WHAT SETS THE INNATE LIFE APART FROM OTHER COMPANIES IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY?
I love that Innate Life is a small, women-owned business to start. I love that the ingredients are natural and products are made from scratch. The packaging is beautiful, yet the products are affordable. The use of Ayurvedic herbs is special and really sets Innate Life apart for me – it's healthy for you inside and out! I also love that the product line isn't huge; to me this says that it's the kind of company that what they do, they do well. I also love that the line is complete – everything you need to care for your hair is here, easy to find, and great tutorials and info on how to use the products. Finally, I LOVE that I can DM Innate Life and get a response. Good customer care is a HUGE difference and rare!
WHAT IS YOUR HAIRCARE ROUTINE NOW?
I wash my hair 2-3 times a week. I use the Rosemary Scalp Treatment, Herbal Hair Mask, and Derma Roller once a week. On the days I use the treatment, I wash it out with a clarifying shampoo and moisturizing conditioner. For my other wash days, I use either a rosemary co-wash or a different type of shampoo and conditioner. After my wash, I either use the Neroli Hair Primer or a pre-styling spray. I follow that with another brand’s leave-in. From there I go a few different ways depending on how I feel. Sometimes I just add volumizing foam, other days I will use a styling cream and gel. I have several styling products from different brands. After my hair is 80% dry, I always use the Rose Hair Elixir to scrunch out the crunch and protect my ends. I try to do scalp massages every day (2-5 minutes) and every night I add Rose Hair Elixir to my ends. I try to keep my hair down and free of any scrunchies, clips, or bobby pins as much as possible. At night I will either wrap a silk scarf around it or use my silk pillowcase. I still get my hair colored, but we use demi-permanent color and I do it less frequently. We always do a hair treatment as part of the visit.
HOW DID YOU SEE YOUR HAIR CHANGE AFTER USING THE INNATE LIFE PRODUCTS?
I noticed a bunch of baby hairs and growth around my temples and hairline first. My hair started to become more dense in those areas as well. Then I started to notice that there were also short strands around the sides and top of my head. Over time, my hair porosity improved considerably and it's now very manageable and soft. I can go for a week without washing and not be too gross. I've also finally started to see some length growth – something that I've really, really struggled with; it just would not grow past my ears and jawline.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE FOR YOU TO SEE RESULTS?
I started to see obvious results within 2 months of using the Rosemary Scalp Treatment and Derma Roller together, about 1" of baby hair growth. My porosity went from high to medium (mostly) in about 4 months.
WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE PRODUCT AND WHY?
WHO WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THESE PRODUCTS TO?
Everyone! My mom and sister are both customers now and I've referred a few other friends :)
I've told everyone that will listen or has asked me!
