MEET ALEXIS
Hi there! My name is Lexi Pedregon. I am originally from El Paso, TX but moved to San Antonio, TX for undergrad. I grew up with an awesome family with parents that both encouraged and challenged me to be the best at whatever I set out to do. I am a classically trained musician and, although I do not play or perform as much as I did growing up and throughout my college career, I attribute music to my creativity. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry Studies and a Master of Business Administration in Marketing. I currently work in the marketing industry for a global tech company. I have an amazing fiancé, and we will be getting married this June in Cancun on the beach, which I am so excited about! I'm also obsessed with my Lhasa Apso, Angelo, and spend a lot of my time (and money) making sure he is the happiest dog in the world. If I could describe myself in 5 words, they would be: imaginative, ambitious, vibrant, caring and a little bit sassy. :)
My first passion in life would be music. I can talk to anyone for hours about music. And of course my next passion is hair and beauty. Growing up in a Mexican-American household, my mom had remedies for everything, including hair. I grew up with my mom putting hair oils such as coconut oil, castor oil, and argan oil in my hair as well as things you can find in a kitchen like mayonnaise, olive oil, eggs, avocado, etc. I learned through my mom and abuela about how to keep my hair healthy and beautiful growing up. Unfortunately, I forgot about my roots (literally) as I grew older and started dying/bleaching my hair, not taking care of it very well. About 2 years ago, I began DIY hair treatments. And here I am today having done countless research and trial-and-error to find brands, products, and hair routines that work for me. I now have a passion for sharing my haircare journey and helping my family, friends and followers! I started making TikTok videos just to share my journey, and it's always so exciting when I receive feedback and questions from others. I can talk about hair and beauty all day!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE TEXTURE OF YOUR HAIR?
My hair type would be about 2c and 3a in some areas. Mostly a wavy texture with some of my hair being a little bit curly (usually my hairline and the new hair growth at the nape of my neck). Growing up, I had really curly hair and it did straighten out a bit as I grew older. I have a lot of hair, but it is very fine. One of my goals this year is to increase the thickness/density of my hair.
HOW DID YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR HAIR BEFORE THE INTRODUCTION OF THE INNATE LIFE PRODUCTS?
As I mentioned above, I grew up taking really great care of my hair with the main part of my routine being DIY hair and scalp treatments. As I got into high school, I straightened my hair every single day and constantly dyed it different colors. I would go from dark brown to light blonde in one session and then wonder why my hair was not growing. I have always used better haircare products than the majority of people, but never really looked at the ingredients and what I was putting on my scalp and hair. Before I got serious about my haircare journey, I had bleached balayage, which looked amazing but was extremely damaging to my hair. I of course had to keep retouching and dyeing my hair to maintain the look, I heat styled every day, and hardly used any heat protection or hair oils/serums. My hair would barely grow past my collarbone.
WHAT MADE YOU SEEK OUT THE INNATE LIFE PRODUCTS? HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE COMPANY?
About 2 years ago I decided that I wanted to not only grow out my hair long, but I wanted it to be healthy. I started doing research on hair and scalp health and finding out what ingredients were good/bad for hair. I learned about the different hair types, textures, etc. and what would benefit me for my haircare goals. I started researching more organic and natural products and came across The Innate Life. What specifically caught my attention was the Problematic Scalp Treatment. Though I have never suffered from hair loss or hair thinning, I have a very dry scalp that flares up with my allergies, causing uncomfortable itchiness and flaking when it's at its worst. Nothing I would try would alleviate my scalp until I tried the Problematic Scalp Treatment from The Innate Life. After using it consistently, my scalp stopped itching and flaking, and now I use it to maintain my scalp health and when my scalp does flare up. I swear by it!
WHAT SETS THE INNATE LIFE APART FROM OTHER COMPANIES IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY?
The main thing that sets The Innate Life apart from other companies in the beauty industry is the brand's ability to create organic, natural, and sustainable products without compromising the quality. I cannot count how many times I tried out other organic or natural products that weighed down my hair, irritated my scalp, or simply felt ‘too’ natural and not like a luxurious product as I believe all haircare and beauty products should feel like, no matter the price. The Innate Life uses natural and quality ingredients that not only feel great, but actually contribute to hair and scalp health.
WHAT IS YOUR HAIRCARE ROUTINE NOW?
My haircare routine can be extensive and I honestly use a lot of products that I rotate through, but my hair routine stays consistent. I also use organic carrier and essential oils as part of my routine. Here is an overview of my routine:
To preface – I only wash my hair 2 times per week. I believe that washing your hair everyday can strip your scalp and hair from its natural hair oils.
PRE-WASH
Scalp and hair oil treatment - I usually use The Innate Life Rosemary Scalp Treatment or a DIY hair oil blend that I make myself. I do this 2 times a week the night before or a few hours before washing my hair.
However, about once a month, I do a hair and scalp reset and use products to alleviate my scalp such as Problematic Scalp Treatment along with a DIY apple cider vinegar rinse. This is also when I'll use a protein hair mask for my hair lengths. This routine is usually something like:
pre-wash scalp oil treatment > wet hair + apply protein hair mask > leave in for a few hours or overnight > clarifying shampoo > hydrating shampoo > ACV hair rinse > Conditioner
DURING WASH
I wash with high-quality shampoo + conditioner. And about every other week, I use a clarifying shampoo. Every time after I shampoo twice and before conditioner, I use a hair mask for the mid-lengths to ends of my hair. I follow the capillary schedule method to a certain extent and choose the hair masks based on what my hair needs – either hydration, nutrition, or protein. I usually use hydrating masks and use a protein mask about once or twice a month. So to sum up, my hair shower routine is:
pre-wash hair oil treatment > shampoo > shampoo > hair mask > conditioner
POST-WASH
When I get out of the shower I always use a microfiber hair towel to dry my hair. I then detangle my hair with a leave-in conditioner (I like to use leave-ins that condition, detangle, and heat protect my hair) and brush it out with a wooden hair brush. I apply hair oil with vitamins to the ends of my hair and let it air dry for a bit. Then I will blow dry and style my hair. I usually use my Dyson Air Wrap as it gives off less heat and is less damaging to my hair. It's also an all-in-one tool! After styling my hair I apply a lightweight hair oil to the ends for shine, smoothness, and hydration.
Every night, I brush out my hair and apply hair oil to the ends once more to hydrate and protect my hair while I sleep. I always sleep on a satin/silk pillowcase and usually wear a protective hairstyle to bed such as a really loose braid or twist.
In between wash days, I will refresh my hair and re-style where needed, but I try not to put any or little heat to my hair in between wash days. I usually use a dry shampoo on the night of my 2nd day hair going into 3rd day hair and that will usually last me about 1 or 2 more days without having to wash my hair.
I of course try out other products and may do more to my hair, but this is what I consistently do on a routine basis. This may seem like a lot, but my hair has thrived!
HOW DID YOU SEE YOUR HAIR CHANGE AFTER USING THE INNATE LIFE PRODUCTS?
As mentioned earlier, the main difference I saw after using The Innate Life products was my scalp health. And I specifically have the Problematic Scalp Treatment to thank for that! The treatment is able to alleviate my dry, itchy, and flaky scalp when other products aren't. And after using it consistently, I now just use it to maintain my scalp health. Although I have never suffered with hair loss, my hair has grown A TON. My hairstylist is constantly amazed at how long and healthy my hair is every time I go in for a trim.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE FOR YOU TO SEE RESULTS?
It took about 2 months to see my scalp health improve. And in about a year and a half, my hair has grown about 12 inches. My hair texture has not necessarily changed, but it hardly ever gets frizzy, and it’s shiny and healthy.
WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE PRODUCT AND WHY?
It's not surprising that I'm going to say the Problematic Scalp Treatment. And that is because it is the first and only product so far that has been able to not only alleviate my dry, itchy scalp, but actually improve my scalp health.
WHO WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THESE PRODUCTS TO?
Literally anyone! I have even told my family, friends and followers to use the Problematic Scalp Treatment even if they don't have scalp issues. I recommend the Rosemary Scalp Treatment to most people that ask for advice because I feel like it is an all-in-one. I not only apply it to my scalp, but I use it on my hair as well. Friends and people who I have recommended the treatment to always rave to me about how the Rosemary Scalp Treatment has helped their hair concerns (it has usually been hair loss/hair regrowth).
